Pain

A lot of people wonder what it's like to get laser hair removal. They want to know what it's going to feel like and if it's painful. Laser hair removal can be slightly uncomfortable, but there are a few things that we do here at Akin Aesthetics & Wellness to help make sure that your treatments are as comfortable as possible.

The first thing we do to help minimize the pain of laser hair removal is us top of the line lasers. Here at Akin we use a diode laser. This type of laser is safe for all skin and hair types. The diode laser targets the pigment/melanin in your hair follicle without impacting the surrounding tissue. As the melanin heats up it destroys the root and blood flow to the follicle, which disables the hair growth.

The second thing we do to help minimize discomfort is apply ultrasound gel on the treatment area. The laser handpiece has a chilled tip, which is what makes contact with the gel. This helps cool the area which decreases skin sensitivity and calms the surface before and after the pulses.

Pre and Post Treatment Care

It is very important to keep your skin as healthy and safe as possible during your treatments in order to prevent adverse reactions during your laser hair removal session.

Before you come in for your treatment, the treatment area must be clean shaven. This allows the laser to closely target the hair follicle underneath the skin, not above it.

Wearing sunscreen is also a must when getting laser hair removal. Be sure to wear a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF to protect your skin from sun damage. You will also want to avoid using seat warmers or taking warm baths directly after your treatment.

To minimize the risk of ingrown hairs, you will want to exfoliate the area 3 days after your treatment.

We always want to avoid any adverse reactions the best we can, even if that means rescheduling your treatment. By doing these things, you will be sure to have a great experience and results!

Is Laser Hair Removal Effective?

Following the pre and post treatment instructions from your esthetician will help you get the best results with your laser hair removal treatments. This means going to your appointments regularly clean shaven each time, avoiding sun exposure, notifying your esthetician of any medications you are currently taking, and wearing SPF regularly. By following all of those things, you will have great results that you will love!
