Q & A

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE A CHEMICAL PEEL

You MUST be off Accutane for at least 6 months before any chemical peels. You should avoid tanning, waxing and exfoliating 1 week before a chemical peel. You should stop all topical treatments three days prior to your peel, this includes prescriptions, topical medications, such as Differin, Tazorac, bleaching creams and retinols. Call us if you have any questions about the products you are using. Also, depending on the type of peel, make sure that you schedule it at least 2 weeks before a major event, such as a wedding, family pictures, or vacation.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A CHEMICAL PEEL?

When you arrive at Akin Aesthetics & Wellness, we will have you fill out a Medical History and then your licensed Medical Aesthetician review it and go through a full skin consultation with you. Once we are ready to start the treatment, your esthetician will prep and cleanse your skin. After which, your peel will be applied. Depending on the peel that has been selected light to moderate burning may occur. Your skin may be pink to red and you might see white frost on the surface. The redness and frosting will dissipate over the next few hours. Your skin might feel tight and wind burned.

CHEMICAL PEELS
All peels are customized for the specific patient, their skin, and concerns.

Chemical peels are best done in a series of 3+ peels spaced 2-4 weeks apart.

Day 1-3

Use a gentle cleanser morning and night. Avoid hot water. Gently pat the skin dry and apply SPF 30 2-4 times a day, even if it's not sunny outside.

During this time your skin may develop red-brown or gray coloration. Skin may feel tight and wind burned. Cracks in the skin may occur.

Do NOT pick skin, let it flake and fall off by itself.

POST CHEMICAL PEEL INSTRUCTIONS

Post Peel

Change your pillow case so your skin doesn't come in contact with any bacteria

You may cleanse your skin, gently pat dry and apply Comfort Cream as needed.

STAY OUT OF THE SUN AND WEAR SPF

Day 4-7

Continue to use a gentle cleanser morning and night and SPF. Avoid hot water.

If you received an intermediate or advanced peel, your skin will often start peeling around day 3-4. Try not to touch your skin.

You can use nail clippers or eyebrow scissors to trim excess peeling skin. Do NOT pick or pull it, let it peel at its own pace.
