PRE CARE FOR CHEMICAL PEELS

• Avoid sun exposure prior to treatment. Sunburned skin cannot be treated.

• Do not bleach, wax, tweeze or use depilatory creams in treatment area for 3 days prior to treatment

• Discontinue use of retinoid (Retin A, Tazorac, Differin, etc) and Hydroquinone products 3 days prior to treatment

• Discontinue use of 10% or higher Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Glycolic Acids, and exfoliants 3 days prior to peel

• If you have a history of perioral herpes, advise office so you may begin prophylactic antiviral therapy the day before treatment

POST CARE FOR CHEMICAL PEELS

DAY 1- 3

  • Use a gentle cleanser morning and night. Avoid hot water. Gently pat skin dry. Use SPF 50 2-4 times a day even if it's not sunny outside.

  • Avoid ALL sun exposure, heavy exercise, heat, hot showers, and saunas.

  • During this time your skin may develop red-brown or gray coloration. Skin may feel tight of wind burned. Cracks in the skin may occur.

 

DAY 4-7

  • Continue to use a gentle cleanser morning and night. Avoid hot water. Gently pat skin dry. Use SPF 50 2-4 times a day.

  • Depending on the strength of the peel, you may experience mild redness and/or your skin may feel tight as well as mild swelling. Your skin may be red as the skin flakes and peels. It is imperative to NOT peel or pull the skin off, allow the skin to peel at its own pace.

PRE PEEL

You MUST be off Accuatane for at least 3 months before chemical peels. 

  • Use a moisturizer with 30+ SPF to protect your skin from sun exposure

  • Avoid smoking at least six weeks before IPL

  • Stop any medications that may cause excess bleeding

  • Discontinue antibiotics (if advised by your general physician)

  • Avoid retinoids that cause skin sensitivity

  • Drink water before and after your treatment

What Not to Do

  • There are several simple steps you can take to ensure your post-procedure experience goes as smoothly as possible. Knowing what to expect after IPL will help you remember these aftercare don’t’s.

  • Don’t take hot showers, hot baths, or bask in a hot tub for a minimum of 48 hours.

  • Don’t exfoliate your skin within the first seven days as it may cause irritation.

  • Don’t pick any crusting or blisters.

  • Don’t exercise or participate in any strenuous physical activity. Wait at least two days to do so.

  • Don’t expose your skin to the sun unprotected. Wait at least 30 days to do so.

  • Don’t use skin care products that have harsh chemicals or contain high amounts of vitamin A, such as alpha-hydroxy acids, Accutane, Retin-A (tretinoin), glycolic acid and retinoic acid

  • Aftercare To-Do’s

  • While there are a few things to avoid post IPL, there are certain things recommended for you to do. Following these quick tips can give you the best results, enhancing your skin’s natural glow:

  • Do apply a sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF. This protects your skin from UVB and UVA rays.

  • Do cleanse your skin twice a day with warm water.

  • Do keep your skin moist at all times using a gentle moisturizer.

  • Do perform a microdermabrasion facial on areas treated with IPL. This protects and hydrates your skin while removing dead skin cells. Perform this skincare routine two or three weeks post-treatment.

  • Do add stem cell serum to your skin regimen to increase collagen repair and give your skin a smooth and healthy appearance.

PRE CARE FOR MICRONEEDLING
  • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.

  • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.

  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.  

  • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.

  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.

  • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.

POST CARE FOR MICRONEEDLING
  • Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for one week after the procedure.

  • Do not use ice on your face, and avoid using arnica/bromelain. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that’s critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use sunblock (30 SPF or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.

  • Use a painkiller, such as Tylenol, if you experience any soreness.

POST CARE FOR DERMAPLANING
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 3 days

  • Avoid extreme heat for 3 days

  • Do not use scrubs or other exfoliators for 1 week

  • Avoid chlorine for 1 week

  • Apply recommended aftercare

  • Use sunscreen

POST CARE FOR HYDRO INFUSION FACIAL
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, especially 48 – 72 hours after treatment

  • Wear daily sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater

  • Refrain from waxing, exfoliating treatments, or using acne medication for at least 48 hours

  • No chemical peels or laser skin treatments for two weeks

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or showers for 24 hours

  • If possible, do not apply makeup for the remainder of the day after treatment
