WHAT IS BOTOX? HOW DOES IT WORK? HOW MUCH DO I NEED?

Updated: Jan 25, 2022

I am sure you, like almost every human reading this post has heard of Botox. The first time I heard about Botox was when I was in my 20’s and my mom was talking about her wrinkles and how Botox was amazing. My initial thoughts were, “why in the heck would someone want needles stuck in their face just to get rid of wrinkles?” then I hit my 30’s and it all became clear.

Let me just say, that I would go to the moon and back to get rid of my crazy forehead lines. Botox has been my go to for preventive treatments and to tackle my forehead wrinkles for years. So let’s answer some of the most common question we get about Botox.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

What is Botox? Botox is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and related species. Botox is used cosmetically to treat certain muscles to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing them. After being injected Botox takes 10-14 days to fully kick in and to see optimal results. Botox was the first and only treatment FDA-approved to temporarily make frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines look better.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

How does Botox work? Botox is injected into specific muscles temporarily paralyzing them; it does this by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. Botox lasts anywhere from 3-4 months on most patients and is a quick 15-20 minute appointment.

HOW MUCH BOTOX DO I NEED?

How much Botox do I need? Let me put this simply, everyone is different and has different needs and wants when it comes to Botox injections. For example, a patient in there 20’s might only need 12 units for their forehead but a patient in there 50’s will probably need more like 24+ units for theirs.

Below you will see a rough guide to give you an average of how many Botox units patients use per area but as stated previously, everyone’s anatomy is different and so a consultation is required to give you an accurate number of how much Botox you will need.

Consultations are always free and there is zero pressure to get treatment. Consultations are a time to learn more, ask questions, and see what would be best for you. Schedule your consultation HERE.
